How To Change Ford Transit Rear Lights Mk6 to MK7
My rear tails lights are looking old and they need to go! There was nothing wrong with them but they needed an upgrade.
This is a simple modification to do on any Ford transit mk6 and im going to show you how.
Items Needed:
- Pair of mk7 rear tail lights with bulb holders. Make sure you get the ones with bulb holders as the mk6 holders are different to the mk7. I made this mistake and had to buy the holders separately. Purchased from Ebay <—— I got these.
- New pair of indicator bulbs. Mk6 indicator bulbs are different to mk7. Ebay <—— I got these.
- Maybe a flat head screwdriver because this might make it easier to take off wire connection as they are stiff.
Stage 1: Remove headlight
At the back of the lights (inside the van) there will be two black screws. Unscrew these to release the tail lights.

location of the screws (remove)
Stage 2: Disconnect wire connection

Disconnect this wire connection from tail light
The wire connection might be stiff to pull off due to dirt and age. This is where I found a simple flathead screwdriver will make this job easier.
Stage 3: Bulb change and reconnect
Now you want to remove your bulbs from the mk6 holder and put in your new mk7 bulb holder, (except the old indicator bulb) you have to put you new indicator bulbs in. Once your bulbs are in your new rear light, simply reconnect the wire connection.
Stage 4: Clean
Since your light is off I really recommend cleaning inside the tail light holder as mine had lots of dirt and dust inside. Once clean spray some Waxoyl inside to rust proof it for the future.
Stage 5: Put new light in
Finally you can put your new tail light in and screw tight from inside. Before driving check that all your lights are working, stand back admire your work.
Hope this post has helped anyone who wish to change there rear lights.
